I'm running an Asus G73Jh laptop, with the latest video driver that is posted on the Asus website. I tried updating off the ATI site, but bad things happened and the driver never took. Laptop runs great with Skyrim, max settings I don't see why SPAZ wouldn't work. Attached is the console.log and dxdiag output. Thanks for the help!

Hi Jeewiz,

sorry for the error. I see two problems here. First of all, the drivers are not being recognized as working with openGL. The game is crashing at the point where it identifies your video drivers by the looks of it. The ATI driver would probably solve this if you could get them installed.

The other problem is that your CPU power is 1.6ghz. Absolute bare minimum spec is 2.0 and 2.4 or better is really recommended. Since SPAZ is not multi threaded, it would be running on 1 1.6ghz cpu which does not have a lot of lifting power unfortunately. It would be enough to get you in the game and playing a bit, but long term there will be large slow downs.

I have seen this error once before with a similar laptop, and I am trying to remember all the things we tried. We eventually did get it to work and I am fairly certain it was the drivers.

Do you have any non default game video card settings? Like forcing full screen anti aliasing for example?

One other thing to try: If you have a switchable graphics adapter, make sure that it is in high performance mode for SPAZ. (so using the real video card, not the cpu based one) Beyond that, I know that there are problems with dynamic switchable graphics cards. If you set your laptop to a "fixed" setting this may also solve the issue.

I found a beta driver on the ATI website that fixed the OpenGL issue:

Downloaded and applied...fixed!
